Founder Story

I CAN’T AFFORD THERAPY SO… was created in response to my own lived experience.

At 17 years old, I was carrying a lot of pain, grief and unresolved trauma. I felt like I had everything taken from me.

Everything I knew about myself and the world was shattered after being sexually assaulted by a stranger. And for two years, I didn’t tell anyone I knew, I carried it alone - sitting on my couch barely moving, convinced that what had happened to me had never happened to anyone else, that it was too shameful, that no-one would get me or that people would judge and blame me.

So instead of talking, I let my pain come out in the most destructive ways. I destroyed myself and the people around me and I wasn’t proud of it.

The only time I allowed myself to open up, was at pre-drinks with friends - alcohol being the excuse for it being ‘safe’ to talk.

I eventually went to therapy. And with that, the moments that changed my life were when I finally opened up to family, to friends, to partners (in a healthy way).

Because something unexpected happened. Most of the time, it wasn't as bad as I'd feared. People listened. They got it. They accepted all of me. And when they didn't, I took that as information too - about who I felt safe around and who really had my back.

Bit by bit, I started to feel something I hadn't felt in years... Less alone in my experience.

That became the foundation of i CAN’T AFFORD THERAPY SO…

We are living through a loneliness epidemic.

The truth is, most of us are surrounded by people and yet still feel alone.

But nobody really talks about how many adults feel lonely. Not in the dramatic way. Not in the obvious way. In the loneliness that sits in, ‘I’m fine thanks are you?’.

In today's world designed for disconnection, and driven by screens and surface level interaction a lot of people are silently living like this. Somehow, meaningful human connection became rare.

Conversations became performative. Vulnerability became uncomfortable. Support became intimidating.

Nobody teaches us how to actually open up. How to create closeness as adults.

That's why i CAN'T AFFORD THERAPY SO... isn’t really about trauma or therapy.

It’s about a feeling we all share - that sometimes we feel alone because we are carrying things we feel we cannot say.

So we exist:

For the lonely people in crowded rooms.

For the ones who say ‘I’m fine’ because they don’t know where to start.

For the ones who are tired of surface-level.

This is everyday people, experiencing life away from small talk, screens and social isolation and towards deeper human connection.

Our products and our experiences give you permission to do just that, without you having to figure out how.

I created i CAN’T AFFORD THERAPY SO… you don’t have to.
